Details for Item # 0930Beerstecher Deringer - Serial # 3       Sold Go Back

Maker: Frederick Beerstecher

This is the rarest Deringer of them all. Less than a dozen were made and fewer have survived. This one is Serial # 3. It was purchased from the Charles Dupont Collection, documentation of provenance provided. It is marked with a 3, in 9 places, the left barrel flat, both screws, the wedge, bottom of the barrel in two places, the bottom of the front striker, and in two places on the back of the lock plate. The rifled barrel is .41 caliber, with a 1 3/4 inch barrel, and a walnut stock with a birds head shaped grip. The finish on this barrel is brown, you can see the original finish on the picture of the bottom of the barrel, out of the stock. This gun was made in 1855 it is a 2 shot superposed pocket pistol. The Beerstecher patent is mentioned in Lemat's patent for his famous revolver. The lock plate is marked BEERSTECHERS PATENT 1855. The barrel is marked Lewisburg. PA on the top, and on the left flat is marked PATENT 1855, and is stamped 3. There is 1 gold band on the breech, and a German silver front blade sight. The grip is checkered, with German silver furniture. The metal surfaces have a smooth patina and the markings are very crisp. Overall condition is very good to fine. The gun is loaded with two full charges, one on top of the other. The double strikers are selected to fire the front charge first, and then it is hinged and folded under and the second charge is fired. There aren't 10 of these in existence. If you collect Deringers, this is a must to complete your collection. I have seen 3 of these in over 30 years. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own consecutive serial numbers 2 and 3.
